3 reasons why you should clean your gutters

3 REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD CLEAN YOUR GUTTERS

Your gutters are an essential part of your roofline, and they have to be free of debris at all times. A clean gutter is a must because plenty of problems can arise otherwise. Make it your goal this year to make gutter clearing a regular part of your home maintenance. Here’s 3 reasons why you should clean your gutters.

1. INTERNAL DAMP AND MOULD

In the majority of cases internal damp and mould problems can be dealt with pretty easily and can be caused by something quite obvious when you have pin-pointed the source of the moisture. In most cases it’s the result of poor maintenance to the gutters and roofline.

2. FASCIA & SOFFIT BOARD DAMAGE

The fascia board is mounted just below the roof, and it’s where gutters are connected, The soffit board is underneath. Clogged gutters tend to overflow, and the water spilled will get into the fascia & soffit boards, thus causing damage to the roofline. Clogged gutters can Cause very costly repairs if left running poorly.

3. FOUNDATION DAMAGE

Gutter problems could affect everything in your home, including the foundation. Overflowing water from the gutter can go everywhere, but it will most likely run down the wall and into your home’s foundation. The water that gets there could freeze during the winter season, which can affect the strength and integrity of the foundation. The reason why gutters and downpipes are installed in your home is to make sure that rainwater goes to the right place which is away from the property.

Gutter cleaning in Oxford

GUTTER CLEANING IN OXFORD

We had a call from the owner of this home who was looking for gutter cleaning in Oxford. His gutters were full of moss and he said the birds kept flying into the gutter and throwing it onto his garden which was quite annoying.

He had just had new grass laid and didn’t want the moss ruining his new lawn. We gave him a quote to clear the gutters over the phone which he immediately agreed to.

He also had a small bay window roof and gutter that needed clearing on the ground floor. I got up the ladder and took a photo of the gutters which were full to the brim with moss.

It was now time to clear all the guttering and unblock the downpipes, I also check all the gutters joints for leaks. Armed with my ladder and a bucket i was ready to tackle this mess quickly and efficiently.

Clearing and cleaning of gutters is usually missed on the list of things to do in a property, but it’s one of the most important jobs that should be on a list! blocked and poorly running gutters can cause internal damp and mould problems in the home causing very expensive repair bills.

Once all the guttering was cleared we showed him the before and after photos. He was shocked at how full up they were but he was happy with the end result.

Here’s the before and after photos of the clearance.
